Rev. Caedmon Grace is improving after being seriously injured March 20 in a motorcycle accident minutes after leaving the Metropolitan Community Church where he works as minister of congregational life.

Grace, 38, sustained multiple fractures on his left leg and was initially taken to the UCSD trauma unit. He was transferred to another hospital March 24 and has had multiple surgeries including one to repair an artery. A long recovery is expected.

“All things considered, he’s in good spirits,” said Lee Bowman, minister of communication, at MCC on Sunday.

Grace was injured on the Interstate 5 onramp to Sea World Drive. His mother and other family members came to San Diego to visit him. He may be in the hospital another week or two.

Grace received a lot of visitors and watched the MCC service Sunday via the online Web site from his hospital bed. He is the first transgender person on staff at the MCC church in San Diego.

He came on staff in July, 2016 after serving at the Founders MCC church in Los Angeles where Rev. Troy Perry started the denomination 49 years ago. Get well cards or best wishes can be sent to Grace at MCCSD, P.O. Box 33291, San Diego, Ca. 92163.

“We’re looking forward to his return,” said Al Smithson, the longtime vice moderator for MCC.
