SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Dr. Jill Stein, 2016 Green Party presidential nominee, is currently on an 8-day speaking tour across California through March 15. She will appear at events from Arcata to Bakersfield at the Green Party of California’s Spring Convention and concluding in San Diego at the Grassroots Oasis Wednesday March 15 at 7 p.m.
Stein and others will be sharing their thoughts on the current political moment, progressive grassroots organizing, and the importance of local action. Speakers will discuss a local effort to build a Progressive Alliance similar to the very successful Richmond Progressive Alliance who currently controls that City Council. The Progressive Alliance concept would be a political home for Bernie Sanders Democrats, Independents, Greens, and others who pledge to keep the corrupting influence of corporate money out of their campaigns and public service. May Day, Homelessness and the Housing Shortage and making San Diego a Sanctuary City will also be discussed.
“We have a progressive majority in this state and in this country; it is time we started to act like it. The Democratic Party, with their rejection of Bernie Sanders, and the recent snubbing of progressive favorite Keith Ellison for DNC chair, have shown they can’t be the conduit. We need a party that will put people over profits, demand a healthy livable planet, and lead on issues of social justice… in both word and deed.” said Rick Greenblatt longtime local Green.
This event is sponsored by the Green Party of San Diego County with special guest speaker Mark Bartlett from People Over Profits San Diego (POPSD), a local organization which aims to “put people over profits by breaking the system and challenging the status quo”. Co-founder of POPSD Mark Bartlett, will join Cecile Veillard, leader of San Diego for Jill Stein and SD Green Party in opening remarks before Jill Stein and David Cobb take the stage.
