Kiki
New York City’s Underground Ballroom Scene: It’s a larger-than-life world in which LGBTQ youths of color are empowered by staging elaborate dance competitions that showcase their dynamic choreography, fabulous costumes, and fierce attitude. It’s also a safe haven for struggling, at-risk teens who find acceptance, support, and friendship within the Kiki community. Granted intimate access to the scene, filmmaker Sara Jordenö introduces viewers to some of Kiki culture’s most prominent personalities, going beyond the glamour of the balls to highlight the serious challenges facing queer black and Latino young people.

2017 San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The Parade travels up Fifth Avenue from Laurel Street to Upas Street then returns down Sixth Avenue back to Laurel Street. There are over 120 groups participating in the parade including bagpipers and high school marching bands, police and fire department units, floats, dance troupes, marching and equestrian units, clowns, dignitaries and honorees, antique cars and more. This year’s Executive Grand Marshal is Frances Fitzgerald T.D., Tánaiste and Minister for Justice & Equality in Ireland. Other Honorees include Parade Grand Marshal Roxana Kennedy, Chief of Police of the City of Chula Vista and guest Maeve Rochford of Sugar & Scribe.

Finesse Mitchell
Finesse was a member of the 2013 Shaq All-Star Comedy Jam tour. He further shined on the SHAQ All-Star one-hour comedy special taped in Atlanta, GA which aired on Showtime. In addition to being an SNL/Saturday Night Live alum Finesse’s previous credits include Disney’s A.N.T. Farm and BET/ Centric’s According To Him & Her. Mitchell has also had numerous appearances on NBC’s Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Arsenio Hall Show, B.E.T Comic View, Tyra, and many more.

Mozart Up Close
A celebration of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart written for great musicians in small spaces. The concert features special guest pianist Orion Weiss, one of the most sought-after soloists in his generation of young American musicians, who has performed with the major American orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic.

Susan Narucki and Donald Berman
Longtime collaborators, soprano Susan Narucki and pianist Donald Berman present an evening of works for voice and piano that combine intensity of expression and overarching lyricism. The concert’s first half juxtaposes two works by György Kurtág: Three Old Inscriptions and Requiem For the Beloved with selections from Robert Schumann’s Kerner Lieder, Op. 35. Alexander Zemlinsky’s Op. 13, a set of six songs to poems by Maurice Maeterlinck and works by American composer James Primosch complete the program.
