LGBTQ Task Force: Trump’s anti-Muslim executive order is ‘religious hatred and thinly veiled racism by fiat’

As thousands demonstrated at airports across the country this weekend against President Trump’s latest Executive Order targeting Muslims from specific countries advocacy groups continued to call out his actions calling them “inhumane” and “religious hatred.”

“Trump’s latest Executive Order is religious hatred and thinly veiled racism by fiat. In the targeting of specific countries, he is telegraphing his despicable anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-people of color views; views that were so shocking and pervasive during the campaign,” said Rea Carey, executive director, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund. “Let’s be quite clear: this action is completely against core American values such as freedom of, and from, religion; it diminishes our stature as a global partner for humanitarianism by denying vulnerable refugee families some basic respite — solely on the basis of their faith. With this appalling display of anti-Muslim sentiment, Trump dehumanizes an entire faith and millions of people in the process, both abroad and here in the United States. We call upon our members to join us in standing for justice and freedom as we resist this massive attack on the core foundation of American freedoms. We must preserve, protect and defend these cherished freedoms by organizing within our local communities, marching, lobbying elected officials and speaking out.”

Every stroke of Donald Trump’s pen this week, just the first of his presidency, has been an assault on all that we value. In between the lines of executive actions ordering the construction of walls, the building of pipelines, and the expulsion of refugees lie death sentences for the most vulnerable in our community,” said Kris Hayashi, executive director Transgender Law Center.
“We repudiate these actions. As Donald Trump rejects facts, so we reject his inhumane policies and worldview. We will not only resist, but continue to build toward the just and fair world we know is possible.”
Lambda Legal CEO Rachel B. Tiven issued the following statement: “LGBT people refuse to be pawns in Mr. Trump’s dangerous and inhumane game. We utterly reject his discrimination against Muslims in the guise of concern trolling for LGBT rights. If he really wants to help LGBT people, he can pledge to retain the Executive Orders that help protect us and to nominate a Supreme Court justice who supports equal treatment of all regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

  1. The “National LGBTQ Task Force” performs no tasks and isn’t a force. It hasn’t accomplished anything in at least 25 years. It essentially puts on a conference once a year, issues press releases, and pays its executive director a quarter million dollars per year. It soaks up millions of dollars which might be used effectively by others. The sooner it passes, the better it will be for progressives.
