WASHINGTON, D.C. The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus today called on the Senate to reject Rep. Tom Price’s nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Rep. Price’s nomination would spell disaster for LGBT Americans,” said LGBT Equality Caucus Co-Chair Rep. David Cicilline (RI-01). “The Affordable Care Act contains critical protections for LGBT Americans which ensure that they do not face discrimination when accessing health care. Rep. Price would dismantle those protections and jeopardize the LGBT community’s ability to access the health care system.”

During his time in the House of Representatives, Rep. Price voted against hate crimes protections for LGBT Americans, cosponsored the discriminatory First Amendment Defense Act, and opposed federal guidelines protecting transgender students. Rep. Price is also a member of Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, which supports conversion therapy and calls transgender people a pathology. Rep. Price has repeatedly called for the dismantling of the Affordable Care Act. As Secretary of Health and Human Services, Rep. Price would be responsible for ensuring that all Americans, including LGBT Americans, are able to access the health care system without discrimination.
