A Memorial Service for Will X. Walters will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Metropolitan Community Church of San Diego, 2633 Denver Street in San Diego.
The service will be conducted by the Rev. Caedmon Grace with remembrances delivered by Christopher S. Morris, Esq., Teddi Scott and Benjamin F. Dillingham III.
Walters, a civil rights activist and founder of FreeWillUSA, died by an apparent suicide Dec. 28, 2016 following a five-and-a-half year legal battle to secure and protect the right to equal protection of the law for himself and for the LGBTQ community, of which he was a vital and beloved member.
Walters had sued the San Diego Police Department for discrimination when he was arrested for wearing a short kilt-like costume at the LGBT Pride festival in 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations can sent to MCC Church of San Diego, Mama’s Kitchen, The Trevor Project or The Imperial Court de San Diego.
