LONDON — Victoria Beckham, wife of former soccer star David Beckham is to be honored by the Queen in her New Year’s Honors List for her for her fashion empire and charity work with the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.
Mrs. Beckham broke with protocol by announcing the award ahead of the official notification.
Sky News reported that Tory MP Peter Bone hit out at Victoria Beckham over the supposed leak. “To get an honor is extremely important and it might well be for a very good reason but you just don’t leak it. Full stop,” said Bone.
Mrs Beckham is a goodwill ambassador for the UN’s anti-AIDS programme.
“Many of us live incredibly lucky, blessed lives and we have a responsibility to help others less fortunate in whichever way we can,” she previously told The Metro, discussing her HIV AIDS campaigning.
“[Defeating the virus] would be a huge contribution to the world for future generations.” The 42-year-old added: “The main thing I learnt is prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV is possible with affordable, readily available medications.”
