Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has raised over $3,500,000 for election recounts in three key states that cost Hillary Clinton the presidency: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. According to Stein’s Web site the recount costs for Wisconsin and Pennsylvania have been met and the focus is now on raising the needed funds for Michigan’s recount.
“After a divisive and painful presidential race, reported hacks into voter and party databases and individual email accounts are causing many American to wonder if our election results are reliable,” Stein said in a statement released Wednesday. “These concerns need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified. We deserve elections we can trust.”
Stein states on her campaign Web site that these recounts are not being sought to help Hillary Clinton but that, “These recounts are part of an election integrity movement to attempt to shine a light on just how untrustworthy the U.S. election system is.”
The Clinton campaign has remained silent about any potential recount.
