SAN DIEGO, – With the holiday shopping season now in full swing, San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria will visit small neighborhood businesses in North Park tomorrow as part of Small Business Saturday, the national day to celebrate and support local small businesses, in an effort encourage all San Diegans to “shop small” this holiday season.
First observed in Roslindale Village, Mass. Nov. 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.
Councilmember Gloria is scheduled to visit A-B Sporting Goods, a longtime family-owned small business in North Park, and Simply Local, a neighborhood merchant featuring the products of over 55 local vendors under one roof.
