Skating by the Sea

Skating by the Sea returns to Hotel del Coronado for the 12th year from Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, through Jan. 2. This spectacular ice rink is located seaside on Windsor Lawn and features stunning views of the Pacific and Coronado beach. The Del’s iconic Victorian building, adorned with thousands of white lights, provides a magical backdrop as holiday music fills the air and guests enjoy hot chocolate and libations.

The Fantasticks

The 1960 musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones, The Fantasticks tells an allegorical story, loosely based on the play The Romancers (Les Romanesques) by Edmond Rostand, concerning two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud. The fathers hire traveling actors to stage a mock abduction, so that Matt can heroically seem to save Luisa, ending the supposed feud.

Howard Barker’s Scenes from an Execution is a play confronting the contentious relationship between art and politics. It centers around Galactia, an artist in 16th century Venice who paints an enormous image depicting a violent battle that recently claimed the lives of countless soldiers. When the government finds out about the painting, they do all they can to silence Galactia and prevent the painting from seeing the light of day.
