SAN DIEGO — The San Diego LGBT Community Center has announced it has received a $50,000 challenge grant from Tony Award winner, artist and activist Sara Ramirez. She will match each gift — dollar for dollar up to $50,000 — that is made as part of The Center’s fundraising campaign through the end of the year.

Ramirez recently visited The Center and was so “inspired by the comprehensive array of services and programs,” that she was moved to make this generous donation.

“A supportive, connected community can make a huge difference to all who are part of it. The San Diego LGBT Community Center provides that support and connection to thousands and thousands of diverse San Diegans every year,” Ramirez said.

“As a member of the LGBT community, as an immigrant and as someone with deep roots in San Diego, I believe the work of The Center is essential to creating a safer and more equal society. In that spirit, I am committed to supporting that work with my voice and resources.”

“We are so grateful to Sara Ramirez for this opportunity. This fundraising challenge comes at a crucial time for The Center, as the holiday season is our busiest time of year,” said Caroline Dessert, Chief Development and Community Engagement Officer at The Center. “Additionally, demand for Center services and programs has continued to grow each year. I hope as many people as possible will help us maximize this extraordinary gift by contributing to The Center’s end-of-year fundraising drive.”

To help make the most of this incredible opportunity, The Center is asking that supporters of the San Diego LGBT community give as generously as possible during this time. Gifts can be made online at http://events.thecentersd.org/match. Donations can also be mailed to The Center at P.O. Box 3357, San Diego, CA 92163.
