San Diego LGBT Weekly won 10 awards at the San Diego Press Club 43rd Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards Tuesday night. With the new awards, LGBT Weekly has now won a total of 57 awards for journalism excellence since it was founded in 2010.
The 43rd Annual Awards dinner, held at the Jacobs Center at Market Creek, was attended by over 400 people who sampled outstanding fare provided by 18 restaurants, 10 wineries and three breweries and enjoyed live music by Mulligan Stew.
The San Diego Press Club’s Journalism Awards is among the largest regional competitions in the United States and honors outstanding work in print, broadcast and online journalism and was emceed by Barbarella Fokos. In addition to the Excellence in Journalism awards special awards went to KOGO’s Cliff Albert (Harold Keen Award); PR professional Tom Gable (Andy Mace Award) and KOGOs’ Mary Ayala (Jim Reiman Award).
LGBT Weekly won three first place, four second place and three third place awards. “Once again LGBT Weekly’s dedicated team of writers came through with more award-winning work,” said Steve Lee, editor. “I appreciate the commitment of all our writers as we continue to provide San Diego with the best in news, features and entertainment.”
Among those honored were political columnist Joel Trambley, investigative journalist Thom Senzee, feature writer Victor Hoff, entertainment writer Tom Andrew, food critic Lance Ryder and movie reviewer Ted Gideonse. Publisher Stampp Corbin and Art Director Jeff Jungblut were also honored.
