SAN DIEGO – For many artists, there is a sacred space where they create. It may be hidden away in their backyard, in an old warehouse on the edge of town or in our community art centers. In San Diego, artists are assuredly working behind the scenes in every part of the County. Regardless of where these spaces thrive, you can count on them being as unique and inspirational as the individual artists and their artwork.
Open Studios San Diego returns this October offering the public the opportunity to step inside these creative spaces. The event kicks off with a month long exhibition at The Studio Door in North Park showcasing the works of participating artists. On Saturday, October 8th, an artists reception will be held from 6 PM – 9 PM where the public can view a sampling of the art, meet the artists and pick up maps to plan their personalized tours of artist studios. The following weekend, artists across San Diego will open their studios on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM to welcome the public into their inspirational spaces.
“For art lovers who enjoy looking at finished works of art in a gallery or while sipping wine at an art reception, studio visits offers a much richer experience. I find that there is a deeper connection between patron and artist when you can see the creative space and the process of an artwork in progress,” said Patric Stillman, owner of The Studio Door and producer of Open Studios San Diego. “I take great pride in the artworks hanging on my own walls that I purchased directly from an artist while in their studio. It’s personal and unique.”
More than twenty-five artists, many of whom have won national and international awards, are participating in the Second Annual Open Studios San Diego.
