In a special ceremony Thursday, Aug. 25, iconic actor and human rights activist George Takei presented the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) the “Hosato” puppet, the character he voiced in the film Kubo and the Two Strings. The puppet will be included in a retrospective on his life and career that the museum will exhibit in 2017.  Travis Knight, CEO of LAIKA studios and director of the film, along with producer Arianne Sutner and other LAIKANS, attended the special event.

LAIKA is currently featuring a special pop-up exhibit at JANM entitled “The Artistry of Kubo: A Magical LAIKA Experience”.  The exhibit is a behind-the-scenes experience featuring puppets, sets, props, origami and costumes all from the production of Kubo and the Two Strings with displays set in custom-made environments. Open Aug. 13-30, the exhibit coincides with the start of Nisei Week, the annual festival celebrating Japanese American culture and history in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles.
