SAN DIEGO – The San Diego County Democratic Party has endorsed Mara Elliott for City Attorney.
San Diego County Democratic Party Chair, Francine Busby said: “Mara Elliott is the only candidate with the experience to get the job done as San Diego’s next City Attorney. As Chief Deputy City Attorney, Mara Elliott has held polluters accountable, ensured tax dollars are spent wisely in our neighborhoods, and strengthened fair pay laws for all San Diego workers. Mara Elliott is the only candidate for City Attorney who will fight for working people in all of San Diego’s neighborhoods, not just the wealthiest among us.”
The Democratic Party’s endorsement comes on the heels of Mara Elliott’s come from behind win in June’s primary where she was outspent by three of four opponents and considered a major underdog by the political establishment. The Democratic Party’s endorsement is considered a major boost for Mara Elliott since Democrats outnumber Republicans in San Diego 41% to 25%. The candidates in the general election are Democrat Mara Elliott and Republican Robert Hickey.
Mara Elliott said: “San Diego deserves a City Attorney who is ready to hit the ground running on day one to get things done for all of our neighborhoods. As City Attorney, I’ll work to build safer communities by strengthening the neighborhood prosecutor program and cracking down on domestic violence. I’ll continue to deliver results on the issues that matter to all San Diegans like reducing crime, protecting our beautiful environment, and protecting seniors and kids against fraud and abuse.”
Mara Elliott is endorsed for City Attorney by the Deputy City Attorneys Association, former City Attorney John Witt, former State Senator Christine Kehoe, and Councilmember Marti Emerald.
