Last year’s season finale of the sword and sorcery epic series Game of Thrones ended with the seeming death of one of the show’s three main characters. People drop dead left and right on that show, but fans all assumed that at least noble warrior Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Machiavellian-with-a-heart Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), and divinely inspired, dragon mom Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) would make it through to the end. But then Jon Snow was stabbed by his lieutenants in the snow after he had allowed their mortal enemies, the bedraggled Wildlings, through the gates built to keep them out. Fans freaked out and then realized he was probably not dead, or not completely dead anyway. Few season premieres have been so hyped, and much of it has to do with the show no longer being based on George R. R. Martin’s novels, so no one knows what’s going to happen. Still the most expensive show ever made, it is also one of the most complex, interesting, and satisfying.
