San Diego Opera Listening Tour
You talk. We listen. That’s the concept behind SDO’s new interactive Listening Tours, hosted by new General Director David Bennett. In partnership with Q2 Insights Market Research Firm and using smartphone technology, these Listening Tours will allow participants to respond to questions in real-time and drive the conversation about the future of San Diego Opera.

Whitney Cummings
Cummings is executive producer and, along with Michael Patrick King, co-creator of the Emmy-nominated CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls, which was recently picked up for a fifth season. She also wrote, produced and starred in Whitney, which aired on NBC from 2011 to 2013. Cummings appeared regularly on E!’s Chelsea Lately, as well as Comedy Central’s Roast series. Her first one-hour stand up special, Money Shot, premiered on Comedy Central in August 2010 and was nominated for an American Comedy Award later that year.

Midori Plays Tchaikovsky
The one and only Midori comes to San Diego for a performance of Piotr Tchaikovsky’s universally beloved Violin Concerto under the direction of rising Scottish conductor Rory Macdonald. The concert opens with a chilling tone poem from Antonín Dvoŕák and closes with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s final masterwork, the Symphonic Dances.

The Backwater Blues Band
The Backwater Blues Band are back! One of San Diego’s premier blues bands, performing a broad spectrum of authentic rock and blues, soul blues, funk blues, originals, classic rock blues and R&B. As a foremost San Diego band, they have performed everywhere up and down the coast to world-class events, festivals and international blues cruises. John Leguizamo: Latin History for Dummies
Class is in session with John Leguizamo’s new one-man show, Latin History for Dummies. John delivers rapid-fire laughs in his biting and comic take on 500 years of Latin history spanning the Aztec and Incan Empires to World War II. Mingei of Japan
The Mingei returns to its origins and plumbs the rich core of the Museum’s collection, its Japanese arts of daily life. Brief selections from Soetsu Yanagi’s writings (he coined the word mingei) will accompany and give context to a wide range of objects, not thought of as art until Yanagi’s inspired insight, but today recognized as beautiful and often timeless.
