SAN DIEGO – San Diego Opera has announced that it is once again partnering with KPBS Radio to present encore broadcasts of San Diego Opera’s three mainstage operas –Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and the West Coast premiere of Great Scott, a new opera by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Terrence McNally. KPBS will also air a special concert with the great Italian bass Ferruccio Furlanetto. Now in its fifth year, these broadcasts will not be aired live, but will air one week after opening night allowing those attending the performance a chance to hear it again.
San Diego Opera’s Director of Education and Community Engagement, Dr. Nicolas Reveles, will continue to host these broadcasts supplementing the performance intermissions with historical facts, anecdotes and artist interviews.
San Diego Opera on KPBS Radio can be heard on 89.5 FM, 89.1 FM in La Jolla and 97.7 FM in the Imperial Valley, online at www.kpbs.org or via the mobile app.
“Partnering with KPBS in the broadcast of our opera season is one of the highlights of my year,” shared Dr. Nicolas Reveles. “The recorded performances sound great and bring a little bit of the excitement that we experience in the theatre to the home listener.”
