SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF), presented by Fashion Valley, has announced the selections for the 11th Cine Gay Showcase during its 23rd edition, set to take place March 10-20 at AMC Fashion Valley 18.
“LGBTQ cinema is transcendent by nature, oftentimes forcing spectators to look beyond their own experiences and inviting them to engage, reconcile and ultimately relate to issues initially outside of their understanding”, said Moises Esparza, SDLFF programmer.
“It is our pleasure to continue our annual tradition of bringing you the very best of LGBTQ Latino cinema,” he added.

Mexico – Drama
Two young men, Miguel and Johnny, have a close friendship and sexual relationship which they hide in front of others. They skate all day in the streets of Mexico City and sell blood to hospital emergency rooms. Trafficking blood is a way for them to earn a living and keep skating without having to follow other people’s rules. When a crime cartel contacts them to supply the blood for their clandestine clinics at a higher price, the boys accept, but the deal does not go according to plan plan. Morgana, a transgender opera singer, travels to Bangkok where she’ll represent Mexico in the Miss International Queen competition. More than anything, she wants to have a sex change operation, and she’s hoping that if she wins the title, the prize money will pay for her surgery.

Armando, a middle-aged gay man, cruises the streets of Caracas for other men and pays them for their company. One day he meets Elder, a 17 years boy that is the leader of a criminal gang, and that meeting changes their lives forever. Armando carries the scars of a troubled childhood, and when he hears that his father has returned to Caracas, long-suppressed anxieties resurface. At the same time, unexpected changes are occurring in his relationship with Elder. At first their association was purely transactional, but as the two spend more time together, something begins to emerge between them: an intimacy that neither man is ready for. When everything is for sale, what’s the value of love? Jesus does make up for a troupe of drag performers in Havana, but dreams of being a performer. When he finally gets his chance to be on stage, a stranger emerges from the crowd and punches him in the face. As father and son clash over their opposing expectations of each other, Viva becomes a love story as the men struggle to understand one another and become a family again.
