San Diego County Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation seeks need-based scholarship applicants

SDCCSFSAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego County Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation is seeking need based scholarship applicants for the 2016-2017 academic year.

High school seniors who have a financial need and who will be attending a college or university in San Diego County full-time in the 2016-17 school year are encouraged to apply. The application is available online at sdccsf.org through March 2.

The following types of students are encouraged to apply:

  • Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Students who have encountered personal, familial, or educational challenges
  • Students who would not qualify for merit based scholarships
  • Students who will be first-generation college students

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Be a senior in a high school in San Diego County
  2. Be a resident of San Diego County for the last year
  3. Plan to attend an accredited college in San Diego County
  4. Plan to attend college full-time in fall and spring
  5. Have financial need

There is no minimum GPA or citizenship requirement.

“I am the first person in my family to attend college and one of the few to graduate high school, so to me it’s a blessing to receive this help”, wrote a 2015 scholarship recipient.

Board President Allan Spyere said,“This scholarship is our chance to change someone’s life. We have done that for the past 50 years and have witnessed the incredible impact in the education of unprivileged students”

The amount of each scholarship will be announced in June or July. Last year, $140,000 was awarded to 140 students.

Applications must be submitted online or postmarked by March 2, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
