Glenn Frey, one of the founding members of the Eagles and the band’s guitarist has died at the age of 67.
News of Frey’s death was confirmed on the band’s Web site with this statement:
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of husband, best friend, father, comrade, and Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.
Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.
The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.

According to a Huffington Post report Frey had been battling intestinal problems for months.
The Eagles were formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. With five No. 1 singles, six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards and six No. 1 albums, the Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of their albums, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) and Hotel California, were ranked among the 20 best-selling albums in the United States according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
Frey sang lead vocals on many of the band’s hits and co-wrote “Hotel California” and “Desperado” with Henley. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
