The state government of Nayarit, Mexico has legalized same-sex marriage, joining Quintana Roo, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Guerrero, the city of Santiago de Querétaro and the Federal District of Mexico City in the march toward nationwide marriage equality in Mexico.
The state congress passed an amendment to the civil code Dec. 17 by 26 votes to one, with one abstention, reported Gay Star News.
In June, Mexico’s Supreme Court declared all state bans on gay marriage unconstitutional, effectively legalizing same-sex unions nationwide.
