SAN DIEGO – The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO finalized its early endorsement list in advance of the upcoming local and statewide electoral cycle at last week’s monthly meeting of Labor Council’s Delegates.
All endorsed candidates participated in an extensive screening process with rank-and-file members and union leadership, which included a mandatory questionnaire, interview and approval of both the Executive Board and the Delegates.
“Elections have very real consequences for working people,” said Mickey Kasparian, president of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO. “When push comes to shove, each and every one of these candidates has stood with us to protect good local jobs, strengthen our schools and improve the lives of working families. We are confident that these candidates have the right skills and vision to move San Diego forward.”
LGBT candidate, Chris Ward who is running for San Diego City Council, District 3 was one of the candidates endorsed by the Labor Council. “I was honored to receive the endorsement of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council,” said Ward. “The Labor Council represents more than 250,000 working families in the region, and I am deeply grateful for their vote of confidence in me and our campaign. This is also significant because no candidate has won District 3 without this endorsement since district elections began 24 years ago.”
