The Expanse

Shohreh Aghdashloo in The Expanse

Syfy, Monday, Dec. 14, 10 p.m.

Possibly the best show since Syfy’s beloved Battlestar Galactica,The Expanse is another space opera, this time about the conflicts caused by humanity’s colonization of the solar system 200 years into the future. Earth is run by a ruthless United Nations, Mars is an independent military power, and the asteroid belt is inhabited by a motley crew of miners, outcasts and weirdos. The cast includes Thomas Jane as a hardboiled detective, Shohreh Aghdashloo as a cynical Earth politician and Steven Strait and Dominique Tipper as long haul ice truckers in space. Based on the mysterious and thriller pilot, the story proves to be epic, but more importantly it has very high production values, pretty good acting and writing that doesn’t resemble the pulpy crap Syfy has become known for.
