Gunmen attacked a gay festival over the weekend in Acapulo, Mexico killing three and wounding five, reports Agence France-Presse.
Attackers stormed the “Reina Gay” festival taking place in Tres Palos on the edge of Acapulco Sunday, opening fire on the crowd, a local police official told AFP.
Authorities could not confirm if Sunday’s attack was specifically antigay or part of the generalized violence plaguing the region. Acapulco has the highest homicide rate in Mexico. Authorities have had to suspend classes at some rural schools near Acapulco in recent weeks and install security forces at others.
