Josh Thomas in Please Like Me

Josh Thomas’ Please Like Me is what HBO’s Girls would be if it were gay, Australian, and not irritating. Thomas is preternaturally talented and very young (like Lena Dunham), and he has written every episode of Please Like Me’s two seasons. Thomas plays Josh, who in the first episode gets dumped by his girlfriend (Caitlin Stasey), comes out, and then finds out his mother (Debra Lawrance) has tried to commit suicide. In the ensuing episodes, he tries to manage his mother’s depression, figure out his beautiful new boyfriend Geoffrey (Wade Briggs), and deal with his dopey father (David Roberts). What makes the show miraculous is Thomas’ genius comedic timing, his sharp and sympathetic writing and the brilliant, totally natural acting of the cast.
