I am really enjoying the side show that is the Republican Presidential Primary. Now I don’t like all of the anti-LGBT rhetoric and hate speech, but I do enjoy the ridiculous hypocrisy of many of the candidates.
Donald Trump said the following about Carly Fiorina, “Look at that face!? Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!” Trump added, “I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
The media went wild. Oh my goodness what a misogynistic thing to say. Talking about a woman’s appearance, beyond the pale. How could Trump get away with such a thing?
Now Fiorina has responded with an ad called Look at the Face that trumpets the contribution of women in America. And Fiorina says she is proud of her 61-year-old face and every wrinkle on it. How inspiring! Right?
Well not so fast. Fiorina is the ultimate hypocrite. She thinks that the voter has a short memory and Fiorina is right. But then there is me, not your average American voter. I am engaged and have a very long memory.
When Fiorina was cutting her political teeth running for the Senate against Sen. Barbara Boxer, Fiorina learned what an open mic is all about. While she was waiting for a CNN interview, Fiorina made some comments that were recorded that showed her true personality. Chatting with her aides as the cameras were rolling, Fiorina mocked the coiffure of Boxer saying that “everyone says ‘God what is that hair? It is so yesterday.’” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XtPMq9xxOY
Hypocrisy thy name is Fiorina. This is exactly why it is ridiculous for Fiorina to say anything about Trump’s comments about her. Such a double standard. Fiorina can say nasty things about Boxer’s hair but her mug is off limits? Ridiculous. I might even say it’s worse for a woman to make negative appearance comments about another woman versus a misogynistic man making a comment you would expect. But I digress.
Fiorina has responded to Trump with the Look at That Face ad but there was no Look at that Do ad to celebrate women’s hair choices when Fiorina ran against Boxer. That’s what makes Fiorina the ultimate hypocrite. I hope the debate moderator asks Fiorina about her Boxer comments at the debate on Wednesday. That would be great television.
