Team Canada set to make history with first out trans dodgeball player

Team Canada is set to make history at this month’s World Dodgeball Federation World Championships as it fields its first out trans dodgeball player.

Savannah Burton, will take to the court at Tarkanian Basketball Academy in Las Vegas Nevada this weekend as part of Team Canada, reports Pink News. Burton, who is also a professional actress, said she hoped to improve trans visibility.

“My goal would be, through my participation and visibility, that other Trans people especially Trans youth feel they are able to participate at any sport they choose and will be welcomed by their respective governing organizations. Governing organizations have an obligation to provide welcoming, safe, and inclusive environments for all athletes.” said Burton.

The World Dodgeball Federation World Championships take place in Ls Vegas, Aug. 15-16 and  include France, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico, United States and Canada.
