SAN DIEGO — In an effort to expand ministries at St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, improve the campus and provide more programs to the neighborhood, the cathedral’s governing board recently voted to move forward with the Cathedral Campus Redevelopment Plan that was adopted in 2002 by making the Olive Street property just north of the Cathedral available for a partnership with a developer.
The Very Reverend Penny Bridges, Dean of the Cathedral, comments, “Taking the next step in our redevelopment plan will generate resources to allow us to offer new and expanded ministries, care more effectively for our needy neighbors, provide a strong Christian formation program for our children and adults, and expand our ministry with our Latino neighbors. Most importantly, we will be better positioned to be agents of God’s good news and facilitators of the work that Jesus commanded us to do: to care for the hungry, the sick, the homeless, and the needy. We are energized by all the possibilities of pursuing our missional goals through the resources that this plan will provide.”
The successful bid will be carefully crafted to demonstrate consistency with the Cathedral’s mission priorities and values, which include care for our neighbors, “green” construction, and the enhancement of the local environment. The new construction will include expanded program and office space for the Cathedral’s ministries.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral enjoys a long tradition of ministering to and supporting the San Diego Uptown/Downtown communities. The staff and congregation look forward to expanding and continuing to build those relationships as the Cathedral Campus Redevelopment Plan moves forward.
