Michael Showalter and David Wain’s 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer is funny but is particularly impressive for having cast so many eventually super-famous people: Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks and Ken Marino joined already or at-the-time famous Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo, Zak Orth and Marguerite Moreau in a parodic homage to early 1980s movies about summer camp. Netflix somehow managed to get everyone to return for an eight-episode series, which is much funnier than the original film. Partly it’s because the same cast, now much older, is playing the same characters two months before the events of the film, and partly because Netflix gave them the time and budget to do anything they wanted.
