Todd Bosnich sentencing delayed

The sentencing for obstruction of justice for Todd Bosnich, a former aide to Carl DeMaio, has been moved from Aug. 31 to Oct. 5 in U.S. District Court.

No reason was given for the delay in court documents, but it was not opposed by the U.S. Attorney’s office. Bosnich, 29, of Del Mar, remains free on $10,000 bond. He was given permission to leave the state during the summer to attend a friend’s wedding in New Orleans.

Bosnich pleaded guilty June 12 to obstruction of justice and admitted his claim of receiving threatening emails from DeMaio during the 2014 campaign for Congress was false. Bosnich also made other accusations of sexual harassment against DeMaio, a Republican, during a vigorous campaign against Rep. Scott Peters (D-San Diego), who won re-election.

The plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s office says he faces a maximum term of 20 years in federal prison. Bosnich is probably not going to get 20 years, but he could get several years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said Bosnich’s false complaints took up a lot of time in investigation by the FBI and San Diego Police. As it turned out, Bosnich himself sent the threatening emails from a dummy Yahoo account he created. DeMaio had earlier fired Bosnich. DeMaio, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2012, represented the Fifth District of the City Council for one term. He denied all of Bosnich’s allegations.
