When Josh Duggar apologized following reports that, as a teenager, he allegedly molested five underage girls, including some of his sisters, TLC ummed and ahed for some time before finally deciding to cancel their show, “19 Kids and Counting”. With Duggar’s confession in May, TLC waited till July before cancelling the show.
The Wrap reports that TLC’s parent company, Discovery Communications, lost about $19 million when they said arrivederci to the Duggar family.
On the company’s post-earnings conference call Wednesday morning, Chief Financial Officer Andrew Warren cited “higher restructuring and other charges this year of $19 million, primarily due to content impairment charges of canceling TLC’s “19 Kids & Counting.”
“19 Kids and Counting” was the network’s highest-rated show.
