Mayor Kevin Faulconer will be honored at the 40th Annual Nicky Awards Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Marriott Mission Valley with the prestigious Mayor George Moscone Humanitarian Award. State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez will be presenting the award.
“Mayor Faulconer who was the national co-chair of Mayors for Marriage Equality has been a longtime supporter of LGBT equality,” stated Allan Spyere, president of the Nicky Awards Board of Governors.
The Nicky Awards which have been called “The Gay Academy Awards of San Diego” (KGTV-News) are one of the oldest awards shows honoring outstanding achievement in the LGBT community in the United States.
The Nicky Awards were founded by longtime social justice activist Nicole Murray Ramirez in the 1970s and every year the proceeds benefit community organizations. The 2015 Awards will benefit the LGBT Youth Center, The Harvey Milk Foundation and The Imperial Court de San Diego.
The Emcees for the award show will be Granny Pearl, a semi-finalist of NBC’s America’s Got Talent and Big Mike Phillips.
There are categories in the field of: business, the arts, journalism, nightlife, social service, sports, entertainment, organizations, HIV-AIDS and many more, with the winners receiving a trophy.
The Aug. 23 event begins with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. and a Red Carpet salute along with interviews starting at 6 p.m. The awards show starts at 7 p.m. and will include outstanding entertainment.
“Everyone is always welcomed to one of the San Diego LGBT community’s most exciting event,” stated Spyere.
Votes for the 2015 Nicky Awards are now being sought for the more than 40 categories. Anyone can nominate at www.nickyawards.org.
Tickets are now being sold at www.nickyawards.org: $95 VIP and $75 General Admission.
