Have a safe and happy Pride!
Dear Editor, GLBT Weekly, Regarding “Have a safe and happy Pride!” (July 18), I respond as follows:
Swiss trains impress and run on time. SD Pride parades frustrate and move slower than snails. Why at the end of each of the 16 SD Pride Parades I’ve watched or walked in do I come away thinking this has got to be among the worst managed parades not just among Pride parades, but among ALL parades nation-wide? Why can not this community of abundant creative and logistical professionals plan and execute a parade worth of our self-dignity? I’ll bet if the Pride Exec. Dir. & Board were told they would receive one of those big checks you see on TV for a few million bucks from sponsors and individuals if they execute an on-time, impressive parade, they would find a way. We would also extend their jobs another year. I sense Pride leaders face little accountability–or incentive–or–worse I fear–face the pressure and support of community will (silent majority syndrome?) to turn this rag-tag bumbling bomb of a parade into something spectacular. –David T.
