The Tijuana Tourist and Convention Bureau granted the titles of Ambassador of Tourism” to three social justice activists including City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez (Chairman, International Imperial Court Council of the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico). Popular Mexican recording artist Rocío Banquells and long-time community activist and great grandmother Maria Gallegas were also honored.
President Miguel Angel Badiola Montano presented the “Ambassadorships” and honors during a ceremony of the Rainbow Diversity Festival in Tijuana, Mexico, which brings Mexican communities together for an all-day event. Attending the ceremony were members of the Imperial Courts of Sacramento, Orange County, San Diego and Tijuana. Commissioner Ramirez has been a staunch supporter and advocate in support of Mexico for well over 40 years. He was honored as the first “Grand Marshall” of the Tijuana Pride over 20 years ago and is the founder of the Tijuana AIDS Fund.
“As an American of Mexican heritage, I am very humbled and honored by this recognition” stated Ramirez.
