‘Made by Raffi’ — a new book to support children who are perceived as ‘different’ gains attention

A new children’s book by Craig Pomranz, Made by Raffi, has been released and is gaining a lot of attention.

Inspired by a true-life incident, Made By Raffi is the story of a little boy who likes to knit and sew — at first he is teased for his hobby, but in the end he becomes a hero to his class.   The book is published in seven languages and distributed in ten countries by UK publishers Frances Lincoln under their diversity imprint, Janetta Otter-Barry Books. Award-winning artist Margaret Chamberlain is the illustrator.

“I wrote the book to support young boys and girls who are perceived as “different” because of their appearance or hobbies,” said Pomranz. “It is a funny colorful book with a serious message and will interest those who care about promoting diversity and embracing our differences, as well as all children seeking to fit in.”

Composers Amanda McBroom (Bette Midler’s “The Rose”) and Michele Brourman (The Land Before Time) wrote a song “Different” to be attached to the book.  According to Pomranz the final mix is finished and it will be released later this month.

Oprah’s guru Geneen Roth was full of praise for the book stating, “I wanted you all to know about this one…although he is bullied, he really does stay true to himself– and it all comes around in the end. So touching.”

Among its accolades Made by Raffi has been highlighted by major trade magazine The Bookseller as a picture book highlight for June and is described as, “Tackling classic issues of teasing and bullying, this is refreshing look at diversity with a positive message about being ‘different’ and creative.”

Made By Raffi has also been shortlisted for the Little Rebel Children’s Book Award!
