The GSDBA Charitable Foundation announced the winners of its 2015 scholarship fund. Five students have been selected to receive $300 to $1250 scholarships from the GSDBA Charitable Foundation Scholarship Fund. The students range in age from eighteen to thirty-nine years old. For the last thirteen years, the GSDBA Charitable Foundation has raised funds to provide college scholarships for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies.
“We are once again excited to help students of all ages pursue their dream of higher education,” said Stampp Corbin, President of the GSDBA Charitable Foundation. “While the endowment from the Hillcrest Mardi Gras will remain as a major fundraising activity for the scholarship fund, our plan is to substantially increase scholarships through donations from corporations and private individuals.” The GSDBA Charitable Foundation has provided over $130,000 in college scholarships over the last thirteen years.
“The Foundation scholarships help connect our entrepreneur and business leader membership to future business and community leaders in San Diego and beyond,” said Barbra Blake, CEO of the Greater San Diego Business Association. Notable scholarship recipients include Interim Mayor and City Councilman Todd Gloria, community activist and District 3 city council candidate Chris Ward, and Russell Roybal, Deputy Executive Director for the Task Force, a national LGBT civil rights organization.
The scholarships will be awarded on June 11, 2015 during the GSDBA Business Awards at the Kona Kai Resort, 1551 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego, CA 92106. The event begins promptly at 6 pm.
