Diversionary Theatre to host ‘Expressions of Pride’ literary and cultural festival, May 2

Expressions of Pride, the nation’s largest multicultural LGBT literary and arts festival, is where patrons can gain a deeper understanding of the history and art of LGBT people of color.

The festival will be held Saturday, May 2 at Diversionary Theatre, 4545 Park Blvd. in San Diego from10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.Readings with be at12:30-1:30 p.m.and6:00-7:00 p.m.

The festival educates on the role that LGBT authors and artists of color have had in shaping both communities of color and LGBT communities, through an extensive LGBT literary section that has poetry, young adult fiction, memoir, literary fiction, and even science fiction. We also include informational and historical displays throughout the festival as as as visual art!
This year the festival features Creek author, academic, and fiddler Craig Womack, whose book Red on Red: Native American Literary Separatism is often taught in Native American Studies classes. Also featured is the award winning Chicano writer Rigoberto González, considered one of the preeminent Chicano literary critics of our time as well as Chinelo Okparanta, a Nigerian lesbian writer whose fiction illuminates the experiences of LGBT people across the globe.
