Cocktail glass thrower at Flicks gets anger management classes

An Ocean Beach man was ordered to attend 12 hours of anger management classes after he pleaded guilty to throwing a cocktail glass at a customer at Flicks which cut the man’s nose.

No further jail time was ordered for Raymond Robert Sims, 29, who was placed on three years probation March 20. He was also ordered to perform five days of public service work.

Sims was also ordered to stay away from the victim and from the Hillcrest bar by San Diego Superior Court Judge Timothy Walsh, who fined him $860, according to court records.

Deputy District Attorney Allen Brown said there was an argument between Sims and the victim and he hurled a cocktail glass at him, which caused a 1-inch laceration to his nose Sept. 14, 2014. Brown said he did not know if Sims meant to throw the drink on the man or hit him with the glass.

Sims was originally charged with assault with a deadly weapon as a felony, but the assault charge was reduced to a misdemeanor March 20 when he pleaded guilty. Sims was given credit for four days spent in jail after he was arrested.

“I unlawfully threw a glass at a person,” wrote Sims’ attorney for him on a court document.

The victim testified about the incident at the bar, located at 1017 University Ave., at a Jan. 21 preliminary hearing. Sims posted $30,000 bond and had been ordered to stay away from the victim and Flicks as a bond condition. Sims must show proof of compliance for the anger management classes May 19.
