Transgender teen activist and HRC Foundation Youth Ambassador Jazz Jennings stars in a new commercial for “Clean and Clear,” writes Hayley Miller on the HRC Blog.
As part of the See The Real Me campaign, Jazz, 14, opened up about her life as a transgender teenager.
“Growing up has been quite a struggle being transgender,” she admits in the commercial. “Especially in middle school. “
Clean & Clear, a Johnson & Johnson product, wrote that the See The Real Me is, “about girls having the courage to show who they really are, and what makes them unique.”
Jazz, who was a featured speaker at HRC Foundation’s recent Time To Thrive conference, first made headlines in 2007 when she appeared with her family and was interviewed by Barbara Walters on ABC’s 20/20. On the show, Jazz’s family also shared their journey to understanding their transgender child.
In addition to being an HRC Youth Ambassador, Jazz has been recognized by GLADD, The Advocate, Out Magazine and was on the 2014 Trans 100 list. Last year, Time magazine named her one of the “25 Most Influential Teens of 2014.”Jazz is the co-author of the book, I am Jazz, which was released in 2014, and the co-founder of the TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation, which assists transgender youth.
TLC also announced this week that it will air a documentary series this summer about Jazz and her family.
Johnson & Johnson received a perfect score of 100 on HRC’s 2015 Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking tool that assesses LGBT-inclusive employment practices at Fortune 500 companies and the nation’s top law firms.
