A student has been arrested by school police after he was caught on cellphone video beating up a freshman at Morse High School in San Diego.
In a report by NBC7 San Diego, the video appears to a show the freshman being confronted by a student in a red T-shirt. The video shows the freshman being subjected to a vicious attack suffering verbal abuse and punches to the face. The freshman is then chased and punched to the ground.
The victim’s family say he is being bullied because he is gay.
According to the NBC7 report the victim’s family has expressed frustration at the lack of action by the school. The incident happened a week ago and the school allegedly did nothing for two days.
The San Diego Unified School District told NBC7, “We can confirm that after the video surfaced, it was turned over to School Police for a full investigation and that, yes, a police report was filed with school police. The suspect was arrested and released to his parents.”
The suspected bully was subsequently arrested on Monday.
As the mom of a gay kid this kind of behavior breaks my heart, we as pflag parents speak at schools and universities to educate these teachers and students about just being kind to your fellow human being even if you don’t agree with who they are, respect each other. I hope this bully is prosecuted and the school is held accountable.
