New year, new us

Welcome to 2015! Just like you, San Diego LGBT Weekly is making significant changes in 2015. As you know, the publishing business is forever changing as new technologies affect how our readers access our content. LGBT Weekly is the only publication serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community that has a print edition, Web site, mobile app, social media presence, as well as the Pride Card, a discount affinity group that offers special discounts, deals and coupons at businesses throughout San Diego.

While we cherish all of our readers, LGBT Weekly understands that the vast majority of our readers access our content at LGBTweekly.com, through our Facebook or Twitter presence or via our mobile application. We also understand that there are those San Diegans who still love the print version of our magazine and that it provides a nice way for visitors to connect to the local political and entertainment scene. Beginning next issue, you will see that LGBT Weekly has a new look and footprint.

First, our new footprint will be that of a traditional newsmagazine. This will not only save trees, but our new newsmagazine will be easier to carry as well as take up less room on your cocktail table. Our new size will have no effect on our award-winning content. In fact, the page count will increase with our new size.

LGBT Weekly is the only publication that carries such a diverse range of columnists covering politics, transgender issues, food and wine, entertainment, LGBT seniors and faith. Not only will all these columns continue in our new format, we will be introducing new ones as the year unfolds. LGBT Weekly will continue to bring you outstanding features, interviews and entertainment reviews as we develop our new format and welcome your input. Naturally, all content will continue to be available on our Web site and mobile app.

When I started LGBT Weekly over four years ago, I said it was going to be a journey that we would take together. Through the contributions of our editors, writers, design team and you, we have built the most extensive LGBT media group in San Diego history. In just four years we have been honored to receive 35 Excellence in Journalism Awards from the San Diego Press Club – more than all other LGBT media sources in the city combined. Not content to rest on our laurels, LGBT Weekly will continue to produce award-winning content on issues that affect and are of interest to the LGBT community.

As we settle into 2015, I would like to thank our readers, advertisers, writers, photographers and everyone who has brought us to where we are today. It continues to be a great journey and we will continue to provide the often disparate views within the LGBT community.

2015 promises to be another banner year and we look forward to sharing it with you. Look for our newly minted issue Jan. 22 and let us know what you think!
