Morocco has jailed two men for having gay sex, reports Pink News.
A court sentenced two men Dec.23 to three years in prison for “homosexual practices”, the maximum penalty under the law. The ruling was fast-tracked by the court, after the two men, believed to have been local to the area, were found having sex Dec. 13.
This sentencing is just months after an international outcry over British tourist imprisoned in the country. Ray Cole, 69, a retired magazine publisher from Deal in Kent, was arrested and charged with committing homosexual acts back in September.
Released in October Cole described the conditions of being in a Moroccan jail as “a concentration camp”.
Both male and female same-sex sexual activity is illegal in Morocco.
Foreigners must respect our law as we respect your law.
@Sahara, nobody need respect a law, foreign or otherwise, that runs roughshod over human rights. Jailing two men for having a private consensual sexual relationship violates the universal right to freedom of expression and resonable expectation of privacy, but these are not values other countries universally uphold. Nonetheless, don’t expect that one-liner of yours to hold much sway among people who do believe in the universal nature of freedom and equality.
The article states they were locals.
