NEW YORK — After a successful donation campaign in the United States, MyDoorSign.com will expand its all-gender toilet sign donations to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom. MyDoorSign.com has donated a combined total of almost $8,000 of merchandise to 80 American colleges and universities since August 2014.
MyDoorSign.com redesigned its all-gender sign collection after receiving criticism for their old graphics. The new designs feature simple iconography and a clear “all-gender toilet” descriptor. The innovative design grew from Sam Killermann and his blog, It’s Pronounced Metrosexual.
With Killermann’s help, the new signs quickly gained attention. GLAAD, Slate, and LGBT Weekly featured the American version of the all-gender signs.
“We initially started this campaign because we wanted to make American college campuses safe for all students,” said MyDoorSign.com Marketing Director Conrad Lumm. “The overwhelming support and orders we received made us realize that this problem was not uniquely American. We’re going to try and help any campus we can.”
The new signs feature friendly international language for foreign recipients. WC, toilet, and bathroom replace the American “restroom” phrasing.
The signs are ADA-compliant and include Grade II Braille. Donation recipients can choose from TactileTouch or Sintra materials. Both materials are high-quality, resilient, and available in a variety of different colors. Local municipalities will have details about specific color or compliance requirements for private businesses.
