Culture Club have announced the cancellation of their forthcoming North American and U.K. tour because Boy George has developed a throat condition that may need surgery.
In a statement the band said that the cancellation was necessary this week, ” … when a polyp was discovered in George’s throat. The throat specialist has ordered George to not sing as it may necessitate an operation. George and the band are devastated by this news and so it is with much regret that the tour is cancelled until further notice. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”
“We are hoping we can reschedule the concerts for next year, and hopefully George’s problem will be resolved,” said the members of Culture Club. “The band wish George a speedy recovery and to our fans we wish to thank you for your loyalty and know that we love you all.”
Boy George, who along with Culture Club is featured in the current issue of LGBT Weekly, gave no indications of any health issues when he spoke to the newsmagazine less than a month ago. This would have been Culture Club’s first tour in 14 years and was due to begin tomorrow in California.
Confirming the cancellation a spokesperson for the band told LGBT Weekly, “Yes it is true – so sad, and all very unexpected and last minute.”
