Elle Fanning has been cast as a transgender teenage boy in a new film.
Pink News reports that the 16-year-old actress – sister to Dakota Fanning – has been cast alongside Susan Sarandon and Naomi Watts in the indie drama Three Generations, which will follow Fanning’s character Ray as he transitions to male.
Written by Nikole Beckwith, the film is described as an exploration of identity that centers on a New York City teen, Ray (Fanning), transitioning from female to male and her single mother, Maggie (Watts), who is coming to terms with having to raise her only daughter as a son. Sarandon will play Maggie’s mother – who is in a lesbian relationship.
Filming is set to begin on Three Generations this month in New York.
