Bears San Diego have announced that HuggyBear 2014, Mark Newsome is stepping aside to allow a new HuggyBear to take his place. Contestants are being sought to run for HuggyBear 2015. The winner will get a medal, a prize basket, this very cool title and the knowledge that they have made a difference in the community.
According to Bears San Diego, this is a title anyone can run for, regardless of gender! How does one get the title? You raise money by selling hugs for charity, and the one who raises the most money by the end of the event wins the title. All proceeds benefit the Bears San Diego Charities for
2014 which are Special Delivery, Stepping Stone and the San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Contestants also need to bring an item to auction at the event; the money raised from the auction goes toward your “hug” total. Contestants can also sell hugs ahead of time and bring the money they raise with them.
There is no contestant entry fee. The door charge for the event is $5, which can be used to buy “hugs” from contestants. This will encourage you to invite your friends and give everyone in attendance more money for hugs.
The contest is Sunday, Nov. 16 at Numbers, 3811 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92103.
Doors open at 5 p.m., with the contest starting at 6 p.m. sharp. For more information, please contact Aaron Borovoy at mrbearsd13@bearssd.org or by phone at 619-890-9182.
