Former City Councilwoman Donna Frye blasted Carl DeMaio in a press conference today describing the 52nd Congressional District candidate as a person who, “… fails to comprehend the words humility, honesty and decency.”
Frye, a Congressman Scott Peters supporter, said she did not plan to get publicly involved in any political campaign, but was dragged into the conversation by DeMaio. According to Frye, DeMaio was going around using her name saying they had had a good working relationship and would have in the future. Frye requested DeMaio to stop using her name.
DeMaio and Frye served together on the San Diego City Council from 2008 until 2010.
Frye’s description of DeMaio as a colleague is in direct contrast to the message that the DeMaio campaign is putting forward. DeMaio initially characterized himself as “A new generation Republican. A reformer.” Also, in his introductory ads DeMaio suggested that he worked collaboratively. Not so much according to Frye. “Our relationship started off well,” said Frye.” I liked Carl at the beginning, and believed he cared about the public.” But among other things Frye said that DeMaio made promises about a homeless shelter that he knew he could not deliver on. “It gave people false hope and showed a lack of conscience in dealing with others.”
Frye stated that she believes DeMaio engaged in behavior unbecoming to a public servant. “In Council meetings he would get up and leave and then come back when it was his turn to speak,” Frye said. “He attended few meetings; he takes credit for things he didn’t do and he’s disrespectful of others, who disagree with him,” continued Frye.
When questioned about the sexual harassment allegations against DeMaio, Frye responded, “I believe there are other victims” and “where there’s smoke there’s fire.”
On Ben Hueso’s allegations concerning inappropriate behavior in the Council’s restrooms Frye said, “I have no reason to doubt Mr. Hueso’s story.”
It has not been the best of political seasons for DeMaio, his campaign has been riddled with plagiarism, sexual harassment accusations and inappropriate emails that suggested racial profiling at events, as well as containing inappropriate comments about a female staffer working for Peters.
Today’s revelations about DeMaio further solidify the perception by some that the candidate is trying to craft an image that does not line up with reality. Based upon accusations by former DeMaio staffers, coupled with the Frye revelations, an image of DeMaio as a demanding, work obsessed boss who demeans his staff and is difficult to work with has emerged. No former staff members are coming to DeMaio’s defense; former Deputy Campaign Manager Alison Rentschler recently disputed the claim by DeMaio that his sexual harassment accuser, Todd Bosnich, was fired from the campaign for plagiarism.
The race for the 52nd Congressional District is still considered a toss-up and will be decided in the election Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Carl DeMaio did not make any promises for a Homeless Shelter at Golden Hall.
He did put forward the idea and recommendation of Golden Hall to house the poor so that everyone would remember their plight everyday. Council Member Marti Emerald endorse the idea of Golden Hall for the Homeless.

There was not enough votes to site the Homeless Shelter at Golden Hall. At least Carl DeMaio came up with low costs solutions, in line with HUD recommendations to use public City property before renting space.
Donna Frye will do anything including lying in order to get her way.
Donna Frye seems to be a major homophobe!
Frye is a nobody quack. Sorry skip
It appears we have some pathetic De Maio stooges commenting on here that of course aren’t addressing any of the issues that are plaguing their atrocious candidate. Face it – in a midyear election when he had a decent chance he has shown himself to be the self-absorbed, egotistical bitter queen that he is.
Agree with Zach, Donna is actually a highly respected public figure in San Diego, and someone who, until yesterday, Carl DeMaio kept touting he had a good working relationship with. Now that she has come out and revealed DeMaio’s true character, the pathetic DeMaio trolls are posting nasty things about her above. I’m especially curious about the post from “Annabel Leasowe” calling Frye a homophobe. Everything I know about Donna, she supports gay rights and has never done anything to signify that she is a homophobe. I’m guessing you just pulled that comment our of your rear end and have nothing to back it up?
I love Donna Frye, but she backed Bob Filner. There goes her integrity! Wake up Donna, and stop contributing to stupid rumors that are dividing the gay community… really not cool.
Russ, Bob Filner had been in Congress for many years before he was ELECTED MAYOR. Therefore I found it funny that no one knew about the allegations of his behavior until 6 months after the Citizens of San Diego ELECTED him Mayor! How does Donna Frye get degraded without integrity for being one of many supporters? Here’s a question, why did the victims wait until after Filner was in office to speak out? Secondly, why does Faulkner run for an office, City Council then Mayor and lose in both elections? Then Faulkner steps in after a scandal when an elected official is pushed out, runs a second time then miraculously wins in both instances? It all seems odd that you’d rather accuse Mrs Frye of not having a crystal ball to peer in to the future. Maybe consider the 2 republican counsel buddies, who happen to have the same groups funding their campaigns as the suspicious and lacking integrity?
