A Phoenix gay couple, who were heckled at their first wedding in Coronado back in August were cheered as they took part in a “do over” of their wedding, yesterday at the Coronado Loews.
Local resident, Alisa Kerr had contacted the couple by email and along with Cerissa Keiffer, Rita Alipour and Kate Blumenthal (The Islander Ladies as they became known) made sure Oscar de Las Salas and Gary Jackson truly did have the wedding of their dreams.
Alisa Kerr told Rex Wockner at the event, “Actions speak louder than words … everything here is the result of people volunteering, and it is just incredible.”
When Wockner asked Kerr how and when did she know that she wanted to do this she replied, “When I saw the story posted on Facebook I knew immediately it needed to be fixed. I knew immediately that it was not an accurate reflection of Coronado and that we could fix it.”
Before the ceremony Jackson told the UT, “Crazy, wonderful. Coming out here now is a reaffirmation. It’s a strong message, and it says a lot about the community.”
Congratulations to Oscar and Gary and to the Islander Ladies and all the volunteers and businesses who made this happen.
