An Evening with Laurence Juber: Beatles, Wings & Six Strings
Fusing folk, jazz, rock and pop styles, two-time Grammy-winner and Wings guitarist Laurence Juber creates a multifaceted performance that belies the use of only one acoustic guitar. Known to his fans as ‘LJ’, the guitarist celebrates John Lennon’s birthday with some of his unique guitar arrangements of Beatles songs, as well as original compositions and familiar tunes. First internationally recognized as lead guitarist in Beatle Paul McCartney’s band Wings, Laurence Juber has since established himself as a world renowned guitar virtuoso, composer and arranger. There will be a post-show ‘meet & greet’ where he will be signing copies of his new photo book Guitar With Wings.

Tower of Power/ The Average White Band
For well close to five decades, Tower of Power has delivered the best in Rhythm and Blues music. Their first record,
East Bay Grease, helped to define the East Bay sound, and did well enough to warrant a recording contract with Warner Brothers. Bump City, their 1972 debut for the label, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the chart’s R&B Albums chart, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down To The Nightclub.” Co-headlining will be Average White Band, Scottish soul brothers famous for “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” and “Cut The Cake” and widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. The band’s consistently accomplished song-writing skills stretched across several gold selling albums and multi-Grammy nominations. Their latest release Times Squared

An annual stand-up paddleboard (SUP) race and expo, featuring three different courses for all skill levels around Mission Bay’s Bonita Cove. Throughout the day, participants and spectators can visit the SUP expo, receive autographs from industry veterans and enjoy live music, food and drinks, free massages and children can play in the Kids Zone. Proceeds from the event will to go to Urban Surf 4 Kids’ Dreaming of Aloha Achievement Program, which will take participating foster youths to Hawaii this December.
Missy is a San Diego artist now, but she was born in Detroit, and lived in Queens, NY during her school years. Along the way she discovered the music of Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, and Billie Holiday, which led her in turn to O.V. Wright, Bobby Bland, Little Milton, James Carr, Ray Charles, Ann Peebles, and Irma Thomas. Like most successful singers, Missy started out trying to sound like the artists she loved. After working her craft, and accumulating invaluable professional experience, Missy’s own fine voice emerged — which, after hearing once, you will recognize forever more.Missy Andersen is a two-time San Diego Music Awards nominee and a recent former-boardmember of the nonprofit Blues Lovers United of San Diego.

The first of three planned collaborations between USD’s University Galleries and the British Museum,
Curious Beasts: Animal Prints from Dürer to Goya explores our enduring curiosity about the animal world through the beautiful and bizarre imagery found in prints from the British Museum’s unparalleled collection. Curious Beasts features 86 rare woodcuts, engravings, etchings, mezzotints and lithographs from the 15th to the early 19th centuries by the best known artists of these eras, including singular works such as Albrecht Dürer’s The Rhinoceros (1515) and George Stubbs’s A Tyger(1788), alongside other lesser known and seldom seen treasures. Because these works were typically small-scale, easily transported and comparatively affordable, the prints were also accessible to many levels of society and comprise a fascinating record of early modern imagination and creativity.
